Odd Beauty.

I wanted to do this post, because I really find these women profoundly interesting. Love the way other cultures find their own expressions of beauty. What may look "bizarre" to us, is a way for them to show status. I'm a person that loves to watch The Discovery Channel. For some reason these women came to mind. I felt kinda intrigued, even tho' I have seen them before on TV. They are the Kayan women, a subgroup of an ethnic minority of Burma. These women are famous for wearing coils of brass to elongate their necks. They begin the use of these rings around the age of 5. The more rings they add, the more their  collar bones are pushed down. What a weird way of life! If we compare them to us, I guess it would be the equivalent to a "Neck Party".  What I find interesting isn't just the amount of brass that they covered their necks with, but the way it would be strange for them to go out with a bare neck.  It makes me think that "beauty hurts". It takes them around an hour just to unfold the whole ring. Whether it's odd for us or not, these women wear their rings with pride.

Quise hacer este post, porque realmente encuentro a estas mujeres profundamente interesante. Me encanta la forma en que otras culturas encuentran la manera de expresar su belleza. Lo que a nosotros nos pareceria "extraño", para ellos es una forma de mostrar status. Soy una persona que ama ver Discovery Channel. Por alguna razon, estas mujeres vinieron a mi mente. Me senti intrigada! aunque ya las habia visto en la TV. Ellas son las mujeres de Kayan, un subgrupo de una minoría étnica de Birmania. Estas mujeres son famosas por usar bobinas de desgaste de bronce para alargar el cuello. Ellas comienzan a usar estos anillos alrededor de los 5 años. Entre mas anillos tengan, sus claviculas  son empujadas hacia abajo. Que extraña manera de vivir! si las comparamos a nosotros, supongo seria el equivalente de usar muchos accesorios en nuestro cuello. Lo que encuentro interesante no es la cantidad de anillos que usan, pero lo extraño que es para ellos verse sin esos anillos. Me hace pensar que "la belleza duele". Les toma alrededor de una hora desplegar todo el anillo. Ya sea extraño para nosotros o no, estas mujeres usan sus anillos con orgullo



From the "gorgeous" women of Burma, to an even crazier look from Japan. This is supposed to be the so called "Bagel Head Trend" which I can't still figure out, who came up with this non sense. You might think, wow she looks cool. This girl was  the less "Odd looking"  of them all to post. I wasn't going to talk about this trend if we may call it that. I felt sick by just looking at them transforming themselves into  "walking bagels". My question is, why would you do that to yourself ? This is a type of body modification pioneered in Canada and practiced in the Japanese underground scene. These people get an IV in their foreheads with  a 300-400 cc medical-grade saline injection. These process takes about 2 hrs and only last a day. How you could feel cool with a grotesque swelling on your face.  Between the women from Burma and the tons of rings on their necks and the bagel head, I prefer to cover myself in brass!.... What are your thoughts on these two posts?.. If you can come up with a trend, what would it be ?

De las "magníficas" mujeres de Birmania, a un aspecto aún más loco de Japón. Esto se supone que es la llamada "Tendencia Cabeza de Panecillo", Aun no puedo entender, a quien se le ocurriria algo sin sentido. Pensaran, wow se ve cool.  Pero esta era la de menos "extraño aspecto" de todos los que habian para publicar. A decir verdad no iba a hablar de esta tendencia si podemos llamarlo así. Me sentí mal con sólo mirarlos transformarse en "panecillos caminantes". Mi pregunta es, ¿por qué se hacen eso? Este es un tipo de modificación corporal pionera en Canadá y se practica en Japon.  Estas personas usan una intravenosa en sus frentes con 300 - 400cc de solucion salina. Este proceso se lleva alrededor de 2 horas y su efecto dura un dia. Como se puede sentir una persona cool con una hinchazon grotesca en su rostro?. Entre las mujeres de Birmania y sus toneladas de anillos y los cabeza de panecillos, prefiero cubrirme con las bobinas de cobre!....Que piensan uds. de estos dos post? Si pudieran crear una tendencia, cual seria?
